Vote

Who can vote in Jamaica, and how.

Who can vote

To vote in Jamaica you must be on the voters' list. Registration is open to Jamaican citizens aged 18 or over who are resident in Jamaica, and to Commonwealth citizens who have lived in Jamaica for at least twelve months.

Voting from abroad

There is no overseas, postal or absentee voting in Jamaica's national elections. If you live abroad and are on the voters' list, you vote by travelling to Jamaica and voting in person at the polling station for the address where you are registered.

On election day

Confirm your polling station before election day with your constituency office or the Electoral Commission (888-991-VOTE). Take your Voter ID. If you are registered but do not have the card, you can still vote once your identity is confirmed, which takes longer. At the 2025 general election the polls were open from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The next election

The last general election was held on 3 September 2025. Parliament runs for up to five years from its first sitting, so the next general election is due by late 2030, and the Prime Minister may call it earlier.

Not the same thing

The online elections held in early 2026 were for the Global Jamaica Diaspora Council, an advisory body. They were not national elections.
