Agriculture and climate: who does what, and how to take part.
Who is responsible
Agriculture falls under the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining. Climate change falls under the Ministry of Water, Environment and Climate Change, whose agencies include the Meteorological Service, the Forestry Department and the National Environment and Planning Agency.
Support for farmers
The Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) provides extension services to farmers, including registration, training and production incentives.
Land for agricultural investment
The Agro-Investment Corporation (Agro-Invest) leases irrigated agro-park land to investors. In September 2026 it invited applications for about 93 acres at Ebony Park Agro-Park in Clarendon.
Climate resilience
ADAPT Jamaica, a US$50 million project approved by the Green Climate Fund on 28 March 2026, is to strengthen smallholder farmers in six parishes against climate change.
Trees
The Forestry Department's RE-LEAF Initiative, announced in January 2026, includes a second phase of the National Tree Planting Initiative with a target of three million trees.
