Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to use this site, including people who use a screen reader, magnification, voice control or a keyboard only, and members who simply find small text hard to read.
The standard we work to
The site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, the standard most widely used to judge web accessibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act in the United States, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act in Canada and the Equality Act in the United Kingdom.
What we have done
- Every page works with a keyboard alone, starts with a "Skip to main content" link and shows clearly where you are.
- Text and buttons meet the contrast levels in the standard, and text can be enlarged to 200 per cent without losing anything.
- Every form field has a written label, and errors are announced and explained in words.
- Pictures that carry information have text descriptions, and the constituency map has a full written list beside it.
- The election clocks can be stopped, and they stop by themselves if your device asks for reduced motion.
- A Larger text button at the foot of every page makes all text bigger and remembers your choice on that device.
- Pages are tested with automated checks and by hand at phone, tablet and computer sizes.
What may not yet be fully accessible
- Documents and videos that officers upload, such as minutes or recorded speeches, may not have captions or tagged text. Ask us and we will provide the content in another form.
- Pages on other organisations' websites that we link to are outside our control.
